The Jewish Social Justice Roundtable, a managed project of Bend the Arc: A Jewish Partnership for Justice (“Bend the Arc”), is looking to hire a part-time employee for one year (to start) who will support the network of Jewish social justice organizations in the New York City area, drawing on the Roundtable’s past experience, current opportunities, and the needs of our target audience: the staff of the 30+ Roundtable-affiliated organizations in the region.

This person will serve as a Program Associate of the Roundtable in the New York City area over the next year. The Program Associate will support the Roundtable’s work with Jewish social justice organizations to inspire collaborations, build internal capacities, and network people and organizations across the field. The Roundtable organizations with staff in the New York City area are listed on our map. The deputy director will be the Program Associate’s point of contact.

Background & Approach

The Jewish Social Justice Roundtable is a network of 64 Jewish organizations that strengthens and aligns the Jewish social justice field in order to make justice a core expression of Jewish life and help create an equitable world.

The Roundtable is building the Jewish social justice field in the NYC area. The goals of this work are to:

  • Build trust and enduring individual and organizational relationships so that there are colleagues to call on when challenges or opportunities arise or when staff inevitably turns over.

  • Convene individuals for relationship building, trainings, peer learning, and field-wide discussions on topics driven by national goals and participant interest, including but not limited to: Racial equity and org culture trainings, peer learning for subgroups, and other trainings or meetings on topics of interest, e.g. programming, managing a team, communications, etc.

Scope of Work

The NYC Region Program Associate provides logistics and operations support (e.g., organize, host, and provide follow up) for convening, virtual and in-person trainings, and informal networking events for staff at Roundtable-affiliated organizations in the NYC area, who are located primarily in Manhattan and Brooklyn, under the Senior Program Director’s direction.

The Deputy Director will oversee the Program Associate’s work to support other NYC-based convenings and organizational support work.

To collaborate with the Roundtable team and stay connected to the Roundtable’s work, the Program Associate will participate in weekly staff meetings and attend in-person staff retreats, as scheduling permits.

Tasks will include:

  • Communicate in consistent, positive, and supportive ways with individuals in the network through emails and  phone calls, and at in-person events

  • Based on direction from the Senior Program Director, host (including: coordinating logistics, payments, recruitment, etc.) and lead follow-up (including communications, surveys, etc) for 6-10 in-person and virtual meetings, trainings, and/or informal gatherings during the year

  • Track and update communication and tracking mechanisms for the Roundtable such as rosters, Google groups, and other communication and tracking tools

  • Host and lead follow-up for in-person and virtual meetings the Roundtable convenes for the Leadership Team, its own staff, or other small groups

  • Coordinate opportunities for NYC Roundtable constituents to connect with Roundtable’s national staff

  • Other tasks as assigned

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to track multiple projects and participants simultaneously and set your own goals; excellent time management and organization skills. Follow-through is essential in a lean operation like the Roundtable. Ensuring balls don’t get dropped by creating and updating effective timelines/deadlines for yourself and the organization is critical. Experience with Google platforms (Gmail, Drive, Docs, etc.), Monday.com, and Zoom is a plus.

  • Strong communication skills, especially written

  • Event planning experience to support in-person and virtual events: securing a location, ordering food and supplies, recruiting participants; traveling within NYC (and possibly to other domestic locations) to serve as the on-site coordinator for gatherings. Hosting and providing technical support for Zoom meetings.

  • Located in New York City

  • 2-4 years of professional or volunteer experience related to these services

Additional Desired Skills and Qualifications

  • Good interpersonal skills. We are a diverse network with a broad set of stakeholders. We approach our work with a positive, supportive attitude with our colleagues and affiliates.

  • A commitment to Jewish social justice. Prior Jewish social justice organizational work (paid or volunteering) and general knowledge of our field (see here) is a plus but not required

  • Experience with racial equity principles and analysis is a plus.
